Deona Lizette

Biography

Originally from Atlanta, Georgia, Deona Lizette earned her BFA from Kennesaw State University and her MFA from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York. Her interdisciplinary studio practice spans painting, printmaking, wood carving, and sculpture, unified through a deep exploration of materiality and process.

Deona’s work investigates the relationship between surface and depth, illusion and structure. Through an experimental fusion of painting and printmaking, she constructs multidimensional spaces and geometric abstractions that both embrace and challenge traditional notions of trompe l’oeil. The human body, whether implied, abstracted, or absent, serves as a recurring anchor within these compositions, grounding her formal exploration in physicality and presence.

Bold patterns and architectural forms echo the language of interior design, suggesting spaces meant to be inhabited, touched, and experienced. Deona’s practice exists at the intersection of construction and perception, where material becomes a vessel for exploring how we navigate and experience the environments that surround us.
